Labyrinth

August 01, 2020

I got turned around in
The labyrinth today.
How the fuck did
That happen?

Writing a poem about
It because it’s
Quicker than
Writing long

It’s hard not to
Love Los Angeles
In the labyrinth
When the weather’s like this.

The passing cars
Basketball bounces
Equanimous thoughts and feelings
Am I really happy here?

Or do you just have no place
To go. I went into the
Labyrinth with a question
Apathetic about finding an answer

But then I got turned around
In the labyrinth and everything
Changed. I’ll go again if
You go again

Ask me to draw a labyrinth
And I get even more lost.
Tell me sir, is your practice
Helpful? A leading question

Will you be in my new
Documentary? Things you wish
You could think to say when you’re
Walking by an acquaintance you wish was a friend

There’s no construction
In the labyrinth. It’s been
Constructed, repurposed,
And you get lost in it.

But there’s always
Construction
In Los Angeles
And we love it.

It’s hard to love poetry
It’s not hard to love the
Weather when it’s like this
But poetry is hard to love

And yet people do it,
And some people are good
At it and I read and
Reread old emails to pass the time.

I got turned around
In the labyrinth which
You’re never supposed
To do.

And it was embarrassing
Because other people
Were around and in
The labyrinth.

“When I think about
This landscape, I
Think about it moving
In slow time...”

These beautiful
mountains, oh these
Unusual mountains–
Sliding two inches a year.

Oh to travel the
Mountains, there’s
More danger in the

Mountains but walking
The labyrinth is much
Scarier.

Airplane drone.

I got turned around
In the labyrinth
But I’ll probably come
Back again when I’m
Alone to give it
Another go.
